I have an agent now that i dont think is that good and i definately dont trust. how do i find a really good agent that i can trust.. this agent makes me feel like theyre all gonna be like this. i hope im wrong.

As an investor who has several times gone into new markets and had to seek real professionals I have devised this little trick. Pick up one of the free ad papers outside the market. Pick several ads by people who you feel may be good. Call them at 9 PM Friday night and leave them voicemails saying you would like to speak with them and leave your first name and phone number. The ones who call you back Saturday morning are working. The others aren’t!

Once you identify one or more who take their work seriously, meet with them in their offices. They will welcome it as this is the best thing for the agent. When you are there explain what you want, tell them you are not sure if you are ready yet, but you will appreciate them discussing the possibilities with you. Good luck!

Ask friends. If you find someone you do like ask them for references and talk to the people they have helped. If you already have identified say your lawyer or banker ask them as well, they may know some really good people. Good luck and home ownership can be great!

Best way is word of mouth. If you have concerns about past dealings, you could always contact your state licensing agency to see if they have any complaints or disciplinary action taken against their license. Also check with the local Realtor board about past complaints. I’m not sure if they give that information out to the public though.

Your comment is exactly why I went into real estate. I am so sorry to hear you do not trust your current agent. I sincerely hope you have ceased working with this individual that makes you feel uncomfortable. I am amazed at how many people stay with agents that they do not like! If you were in Ohio I would welcome the opportunity to work with you and show you why my clients are so loyal!

Real Estate Agents get a bad reputation – some of us actually care about our clients and their well being.

Do your homework. Don’t just go by online profiles and resumes. Talk to people you know who have worked with agents and then interview those agents yourself. Make sure you are 100% comfortable with them – you will be spending a lot of time with them and sharing your financial information with them as well. Call and/or email a few agents and note how long it takes them to get back to you and how thorough they are in answering your questions.

What part of the country are you in?

Have you signed a contract to work with your current agent? Before looking for another agent, check to see if you have signed any type of contract that would keep you from working with another agent.
